Legends and lattes by Travis Baldree

Goodreads: High Fantasy with a double-shot of self-reinvention

Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv the orc barbarian cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.

However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners and a different kind of resolve.

A hot cup of fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth.
Annotated lines-

"This is what I know, what I’ve always known. I just want to know something else, now. To be something else. Everything I said was stupid. I, of all people, ought to know better than to assume anything based on what you were born as."

“Is it enough, though?” Tandri frowned and looked down. “What they want to take from you… the reason it’s so… untenable. It’s because they’d be taking everything you have. I’m just saying that… maybe, if you treated the rest of your life the same way you do the shop—invested in it the same way—then the cost would seem less.”

She thought about what Tandri had said just a day ago about reciprocity. Pain that was ignored, magnified on its return.
Absolute devastation.

This is the part where I do what desperate people do. This is the part where I flee.”

Viv’s hand rose and carefully tucked Tandri’s singed hair behind one ear.
With a sharply drawn breath, she tipped her head forward, and brushed her lips against Tandri’s, light as a whisper.
Then she wrapped her arms around her and tried not to squeeze too hard.
Tandri squeezed back.

My review: This book was chef-kiss because the snacks mentioned in this book can make you drool and you would say can't I have one of those?!!!(no my dear friend you can not! The currency is different there)
This book is about the daily life of an Orc. This book does not have lots of drama and action in it because Viv's daily life was already so happening in the hustle of building new coffee shop where no body know about the coffee. It doesn't not super plot twist but it have slight mystery element to hook you in the story.
If you like the found family trope come and devour this book I will say no more and no less in this matter.
And the sprinkle of romance was slow and believable. I like seeing characters helping and looking out for each other and fall in love. Nothing was to direct. It was slow to reach to the point.
The characters were very distinct from each other and they have their own voice.
So if you are cosy or slice of life fantasy reader grab you beverages and snacks and read dive into the life of Viv.

Hope you enjoy my review on this book tell me if you have already read and what are your thoughts on this one.
I will see you soon. Keep reading until I come back.
