So buckle up your seat belt we diving into this.
My Sister's keeper by Joldi Picoult
Goodreads discription:
Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age 13 she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate—a life and a role that she has never challenged ... until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister—and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves.
My Sister's Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart or let others lead you? Once again, in My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity.
My review:
In addition to being a bone marrow match for Kate, Anna also wants her parents to really see her. The physical and psychological toll that a seriously ill child places on a family is vividly described by the author, and you can see how torn apart the family is as a result. It explores the young girl's thinking as she underwent challenging procedures in an effort to save her sister, showing how it traumatised her and led her to make the decisions she did. You could observe how each individual dealt with the persistent illness in the home.
By the end of the book, I was genuinely in tears and very shaken. It made me feel hollow and made my heart hurt. I adored the chemistry that Campbell and Anna had. This book focuses primarily on Anna and Campbell, but you get chance of understanding each character and you'll be intrigued to find out what happens to them. This novel has references to constellations and galaxies that you would hear Anna's father discussing with her daughter. This book left me in sob and cracked my heart.
Given how Colleen Hoover challenges your morality through her characters, I believe Colleen Hoover's followers would adore it. Even if you are not an admirer of her work, this book will trick you. I'd like for you to test it out and see how it goes.
Tell me if you have read it and what are your thoughts on this. I will see you soon till then keep reading until I come back.
